For search purposes, variations of latin
characters are considered equivalent.
For example:
ó ò ô ö õ ø = o Ó Ò Ô Ö Õ Ø = O
Similarly:
ß = ss æ = ae Æ = AE
Œ, œ, Š, š and Ÿ
must be converted
to OE, oe, S, s and Y. All non-latin
characters must be transliterated.
Exact phrasesenclose them in double quotes
e.g. "middle east"
Alternative words or phrases
interject a capitalized OR
e.g. "united kingdom" OR uk
Excluded words or phrases
precede them by --
e.g. york --"new york"
Case sensitive searches
begin them with ==
e.g. == holidays Turkey
